Guatemala's President, Bernardo Arévalo, marked his first 100 days in office by announcing a 25% reduction in his salary. In turn, Vice President Karim Herrera has also requested the same salary reduction through a letter sent to the Secretariat of Administrative and Security Affairs. During his speech, the president stressed that the decision to reduce his salary is a “clear sign that they are aware of the need to narrow the country's gaps”, considering that “excessive privileges are not the way forward”. Finally, the president also mentioned details about his relationship with the prosecutor's office. He added that he will not rest until he achieves the removal of Attorney General Consuelo Porras, whom he called a "threat to democracy."
